What Smaran is
The craft hasn’t changed. What’s hidden inside has.
Every Smaran piece starts the way our workshop has worked for three generations a block of sheesham wood, a chisel, and a karigar’s hand. Nothing about the carving is automated.
What’s new is sealed beneath the woodwork: a small chip that holds one memory, unlocked only by a tap. The wood stays wood. The memory stays private, until the person holding it chooses to hear it.
How it works
Five steps, and none of them need an app.

Choose a piece
A frame, a ring box, an anniversary plaque, or a custom carving the same shapes our karigars have carved for three generations.

Record a memory
A voice note, a short video, or a photo with a line of your own words. Nothing longer than what matters.

We carve and seal it in
A small chip is sealed beneath the woodwork by hand invisible from the outside, permanent on the inside.

It's given, not shipped and forgotten
The piece travels the way any handmade gift does by hand, at a wedding, a birthday, a homecoming.

They tap, and it plays
No app, no account. A phone held against the wood plays the memory back, for as long as the piece exists.

Saharanpur has carved wood for longer than anyone in it can remember first-hand. Reshma Handicrafts has been part of that for three generations sheesham frames, boxes, and panels, carved the same way each time, by hand.
Smaran is how the workshop is starting again: the same karigars, the same wood, one new idea sealed inside it.
What we’re carving first
A few shapes a memory can take.
Memory frame
A photo frame with a second photo hidden inside tap it, and hear the story behind the picture on the wall.
Voice locket
Small enough to sit in a pocket or on a desk. Holds a single voice note fourteen seconds is usually enough.
Anniversary plaque
Engraved with a date. Tap it, and the wedding video plays not the photos everyone's seen, the one nobody has.
Distance box
Built for families who live an ocean apart. A box of small carved pieces, each one holding a different voice from home.
